Propaganda is the spreading of false or slanted information so as the bring about a desired frame of mind in the recipients. Black propaganda is the spreading of false or slanted information so as destroy the repute or credibility of a person or group, by engendering the hatred or ridicule of others.
The first thing you should know about Black Propaganda is that you don't have to PROVE anything. And what you are saying does not have to be true. You merely have to accuse. The mere fact of accusation, however false, is usually sufficient to damage the reputation of someone targeted for destruction.
This comes about in part at least due to the fact that most people, being of social disposition, cannot quite believe or imagine the degree to which some of their fellows are able to lie without qualms. A man who can lie without conscience or qualms can, of course, lie very convincingly.
One way to spread propaganda is through the spreading of rumours and whispering campaigns. The advent of the internet has made this very easy. Disinformation can be spread very quickly and anonymously and, through Google and other search engines, targeted at specific keywords and names.
Thus, by seeding the internet with false reports about a company or person, it is possible to poison or destroy the reputation of the innocent and Black Propagandists can do so anonymously without having to much fear the prospect of getting caught, having to prove anything or worry much about being sued for slander or libel.
Thus we have a paradox: the more people turn to the internet as a source of information, the less reliable a source it has become.
The two main methods of Black Propaganda are:
completely false and fabricated reports and articles
and the selecting out of data for emphasis.
In the latter case, by way of an example, let's imagine a company had a thousand favorable reports about its product and just ten complaints. The professional Back Propagandist will single out the complaints and turn them into a drama, seeding the internet with them. The nine hundred and ninety good reports never see the light of day, the ten bad reports receive banner headlines and are endlessly rehashed and referenced in article after article.
The work of the Black Propagandist makes a very interesting if somewhat distasteful study of human behaviour at its most degenerate. It does immeasurable harm to good people.
In casting about for a good example of this kind of phenomenon, I come upon the case of one John Mappin, owner of the Independent Local Newspaper chain and of the Camelot Castle Hotel in Cornwall, England.
Mr Mappin, the husband of Irina Mappin and close friend and mentor of the famous artist Ted Stourton has been the recipient of such a concerted black propaganda campaign and someone has been hard at work seeding the internet with the most scurrilous falsehoods about him. This does not seem to have deterred or phased Mr Mappin unduly but I wondered whom precisely could Mr Mappin have upset that they were spurred to bring in the Black Propaganda boys and work him over.
I did not have to look very far. Mr Mappin has committed the "sin" of championing human rights, of opposing the drugging of children and the drug-the-population-into-a-stupor brigade in general.
Worse, he is a vociferous opponent of human rights abuses and charlatanry, particularly those of the psychiatric profession, and has newspapers in which he can warn the nation about them.
I cite the article linked-to below, which was originally published in Mr Mappin's newspaper, the Westminster Independent.
In seeking to alert the public to the scandal of the psychiatric drugging of children, John Mappin did a very brave thing: he stuck his head above the parapet and spoke out. In so doing, he incurred the wrath of the drug-the-kids brigade, and a psychiatric industry already reeling from one scandal after another.
I am well familiar with psychiatry's penchant for seeking to silence or discredit those who speak out against its crimes. It comes as no surprise to me then that the Black Propaganda machine has moved into gear, manufacturing a tirade of distortion, sneers, invective and falsehood that targeted not only John Mappin, but his wife Irina, his friend Ted Stourton and apparently anyone else associated with him. No surprise at all.
But that's just my opinion. I suggest you take a look at the "offending" article that appeared in the Westminster Independent and judge for yourself.
